Q: What equipment was used to make these movies?
A: Spirits of the Force was filmed on a rented
Canon GL2 (exterior scenes)
and a Sony TRV-33 (interior scenes).
Fool's Errand and Reflections of Evil were filmed on a
Canon XL-1s,
with some pickup shots filmed on a
Canon XL2.
3D animation (including Kyle's ship, planet, training probes, and droid) was done in 3D Studio Max.
Compositing and rotoscoping (the lightsabers) were done in Adobe After Effects.
Editing and sound was done using Adobe Premiere Pro.
The film was complete post-produced using a single
Dell Dimension 8200 PC.
Q:How many locations/sets were created to film these movies?
A: Spirits of the Force was filmed on location at
Arizona State University (exterior scenes) and
in a small 3-wall set that was built in the
Cranson Upholstery warehouse (interior scenes).
Since Fool's Errand and Reflections of Evil were filmed at the same time, the locations and sets
used for those films were built and all scenes spanning both movies were filmed before the set was torn down.
In all, we visited 9 unique exterior locations and built 10 large interior sets. Once again,
the interior sets were all possible thanks to warehouse space provided by Cranson Upholstery.
Q: What the heck was up with that magic pear in Spirits of the Force?
A: Funny things happen when you're making a movie, and more so when you're filming with a bunch of
friends that like to mess around. The true story behind the "fruit consipracy" aka "magically changing fruit"
scene was the responsibility of our Director, Scott Allen. He was a riot on set, and kept everyone laughing
all day. We had filmed a take where Kyle actually puts down the one piece of fruit and picks up the other one.
However.... Scott decided to reach in front of the camera and "squish Jaina's head" on that one take.
Well, we found out in the editing room what had happened. We considered replacing the fruit with a digital double, but
we decided to leave it in for the fun of it.
